Unresolved Beauty
What I started rrrood for...
·Rodrigo Garza

I’m kind of feeling like I’m making a lot of the same mistakes I was making while running Lightyears Magazine. I feel like, once again, my mind and ambition are racing, while my mind demands calmness and time to work on actual photography, writing, and other exploratory media like paint, pastels, etc.
I started RRROOD precisely to focus on creating, so I need to make a hard redirect toward enabling work rather than aiming at a fake image of success that I made up in my head without even thinking.
I’m a total sucker for a good YouTube thumbnail, that’s how I ended up in David Fragomeni’s “become a one-of-one creative “ for some reason I stuck through, and thank goodness I did, his videos are great, at least they were what I needed to hear that day. And in working on the “where I am today” Vs “where I see myself” in an ideal state, I definitely noticed that I was doing plenty, except in the wrong direction.
I like plenty of my photos, but what am I trying to say with them? I came up with a sort of mantra:
Unresolved Beauty
I think this captures my style in photography quite well, and in life in general, it seems, writing too. Art, design, film, etc. This is a thread I want to hold on to every day, remember it every day.
Through this Unresolved Beauty lens, I see myself with a strong and cohesive portfolio, properly represented on my website. Interesting commissions; movie set photography, fashion editorials, cool company editorials, documentary commissions, travel. Always finding a way back to Unresolved Beauty, which, if you think about it, can also be Unfinished Work, which is the beauty in and of itself, rather than showing the outcome as beauty.
I’m glad that I’m done setting up agents that hopefully will take care of all the nuisance that I hate so much but gravitate to, like Google Ads, Shopify, Meta, however there’s still Instagram, no agent can do Instagram yet, unless I want AI generated slop, which I set out not to use (except maybe for product mockups). AI is forbidden in the creative process, no Photography, no Writing, no Art with AI, that’s one of my self imposed constraints for this project.
AI has a gravity to it, a pull, that for me if unchecked, will fuck you over, over and over again.
