Little Slices

my new unofficial methodology for organizing a large body of work...

Going over my archive of 60k+ photos trying to select what goes into rrrood.com and into my portfolio is challenging, and not in the sense of having to go through a bunch of photos, rather it's an overload of memories and feelings from my past 20 years reigniting old synapses in my head. It's kind of like doomscrolling through my brain.

The hard part, as a terribly distractible person, ADHD in all but diagnosis, many photos trigger something in me and I can't help but pull at the threads and go wandering with them. It's fun, until it's not.

I read a recommendation for tackling massive piles of work, slicing it into smaller bits, which I have begun doing, One hour per day dedicated exclusively to setting slices, moving images into the workload pipeline, and outputting One photo a day (for now) so I pick a slice, a trip, a moment, an old shoot, whatever, and if a few come to mind I write the slices down for another day, then, I go through the slice, and intuitively add photos into the work pipeline as follows:

Review > Developing > Ready

Honestly it has been helping a lot with creative block, now I know what to tackle, bit by bit every single day, compounding over time hopefully, but at the very least, easing my mind.

Eventually I'll run out of "ready" images I can churn at the rate of one per day but that's a problem for someone else...
