Einsamer Hirte
When a song just hits you...
·Rodrigo Garza

Holy fuck, I randomly landed on the song Einsamer Hirte while looking for spiritual classical music, chamber music, not the new age stuff, and immediately felt like it represented my current soul state. It’s so emotional, mystical, and magical. This song comes on twice in Kill Bill, but I managed to hear it and feel it apart from Kill Bill. Not having sight as a sense in the mix changed my perception of the song. Once again, the recurring theme of constraints opening up possibilities. With and without the visual context, it’s two totally different emotions, quite opposite to one another. In Kill Bill, when Hattori Hanzo is crafting Beatrix’s katana, and during the rolling credits preparing us for Kill Bill Vol. 2, it’s a feeling of vengeance and retribution. But the song, just heard, is just melancholic bliss. I might just be getting old. I never thought I’d end up relating to a new age song, but here I am. I also want to explain why my soul state is “melancholic bliss.” I’m 39, my parents are both alive, my kids are little, and I’m close to my brother and sister. Life cannot possibly get any better than this, which also means it can only get worse. I know that’s part of life. I’m not really afraid of it, I think. I’m just trying to embrace the bubble I’m in, but sometimes it’s difficult not to take a look outside of it. I’ve replayed the song close to 20 times, and I get the same feeling every time. I should probably stop playing it.
